First a disclaimer, I really admire Gary Vaynerchuk. For those of you who don't know him, he's a serial entrepreneur, catches trends since he's an investor in Twitter, Facebook, Uber & definitely doesn’t mince words. And this is what he says:

“The #1 asset in the world isn't cash, real estate or oil. It's 'attention'. If you know what to do with it, you win.”

He’s not exaggerating. In today’s hyper-saturated digital economy, attention has become the scarcest and the most valuable currency and the logic is brutally simple: before anyone buys your product, invests in your company, or follows your vision, they must first notice you.

Traditional assets like cash, real estate, and infrastructure used to be enough. You could build a factory, open a store, run a newspaper ad, and people would show up. But in 2025, we’re living in an attention recession. Content is infinite - billions of posts, videos, emails, and ads compete for eyeballs every second.

The challenge isn’t creating something valuable anymore; it’s getting someone to see it in the first place.

Take our journey at Brain Box Catalysts. We didn’t have venture capital or a marketing war chest when we launched "Brain Box - The Leadership Podcast" in September 2021. Due to our prior experience of building multiple businesses, we did, however, have a clear understanding of where attention was underpriced: medium-form (between 15-30 minutes) podcasting.

Within a year, we were voted 9th pan-India by Spotify in 2022, and today we reach 250,000+ listeners per episode. We didn’t buy that attention - we earned it by consistently showing up where our audience was already looking and delivering value they couldn’t ignore.

That’s the concept of “day trading attention.” Find platforms and formats where attention is currently undervalued and going all-in before everyone else catches on. It’s not about chasing the newest app or trend blindly; it’s about pattern recognition and speed of execution.

Attention is the Gateway to Everything

Here’s the harsh truth: if your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) doesn’t know you exist, it doesn’t matter how revolutionary your product is. You’re invisible. Attention is the prerequisite for trust, loyalty, sales, partnerships, and growth. It’s the top of every funnel, the first domino that must fall before anything else can happen.

When we started Brain Box Catalysts as a 360° PR and Personal Branding Agency, we applied this philosophy systematically. We built a growth flywheel centered entirely around capturing attention at three stages: awareness (Top of Funnel), trust-building (Middle of Funnel), and conversion (Bottom of Funnel). We leveraged influencer marketing, media coverages, podcasts, and LinkedIn content - all designed to grab attention first, then nurture it into business outcomes.

Arpita, my co-founder and wife, exemplifies this perfectly. She built her YouTube channel from 1 to 10,000 subscribers in just 95 days and generated 2.5 million+ Instagram reel views in 2024 alone - without any paid ads! How?

Because people don’t pay attention to ads unless they’re already primed to care. Attention must be earned through storytelling, consistency, value delivery, and authenticity.

What does work? Organic content, strategic outreach, and leveraging underpriced platforms. For our personal branding clients, we’ve helped 50 thought leaders generate over a billion LinkedIn views in just the past 6 months. We don’t just post randomly - we analyze engagement patterns, A/B test formats (carousels vs. videos vs. newsletters), and optimize posting times.

One of our clients, a solopreneur, came to us in May 2025. We built his entire brand presence through podcasts, Expandi-driven LinkedIn engagement, and strategic content posting. No ads. No cold emails to random lists. Just focused, attention-driven engagement with his ICP. He’s now closing deals and landing speaking gigs - all because the right people finally noticed him.

The Mechanics of Winning Attention

So how do you actually win attention in 2026? Here’s what we’ve learned across 7 startups, 250+ clients, and our own journey from corporate life to entrepreneurship:

  • Go where attention is underpriced: In 2021, long-form podcasting was undervalued. In 2024, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts exploded. In 2025, newsletters are making a comeback. Spot the trend early and dominate before it’s saturated. We're also on BlueSky, since X is on the decline.
  • Be relentlessly consistent: From 2022 to 2024, I posted daily on LinkedIn. In 2025, I scaled back to 3x weekly because I needed bandwidth for agency work, but I never stopped. Consistency compounds attention over time.
  • Provide value first, pitch later: Our Brain Box Gurukul newsletter offers free AI webinars, LinkedIn optimization guides, and drip campaigns designed to build trust before any sales ask. People don’t pay attention to pitches; they pay attention to help.
  • Leverage owned channels: We have 7 exclusive channels with 250,000+ reach: LinkedIn (19k subscribers), 26k on YouTube, 23k on Instagram & 20k on Facebook. These are assets that generate attention on demand, without needing to pay for reach every single time. That's why we are also building our newsletter to reduce our dependency on algorithmic changes happening suddenly.

The Bottom Line

Gary Vee’s philosophy isn’t aspirational fluff - it’s operational reality. In the attention economy, visibility precedes viability. You can have the best product, the deepest pockets, and the smartest team, but if nobody notices you, you lose.
